The invention relates to an electrode for galvanic electrostimulation of the rectal sphincter muscle in cases of incontinence, which electrode can be introduced into the sphincter muscle area of the rectum and consists of a cylindrical, insulated electrode shaft 11, a plate-shaped ring electrode 12, a cylindrical bar electrode 13 and an adjoining spherical or oval electrode head 14. The ring electrode 12, the whole cylindrical bar electrode 13 and at least a part 141 of the electrode head 14 are designed to be electrically conductive, while the remaining part 142 of the electrode head 14 consists of acrylic plastic or is likewise designed to be completely electrically conductive.
