[Also in Division C7] Apparatus for making alloys (e.g. steel), comprises several furnace tanksmounted on an axially rotatable, or longitudinally movable, platform and covers for the tanks which are mountable and demountable and interconnected by flue ducts, at least those covers for the melting and refining stations being equipped with electrodes. The interconnection of the flue ducts enables the gases from the melting and refining stations to be used at the preheating station. A burner may be provided in the cover for the preheating stage or, when a liquid charge is used, an oxygen lance may be provided at this stage, the melting stage being dispensed with.</p> |
