PURPOSE:To prevent the titled overheating without deteriorating heating efficiency, by covering upper, lower and side surfaces of edge part of a steel slab with heat shelter plate, in heating in the furnace. CONSTITUTION:The steel slab 3 charged from a charging hole 1A of the continuous steel slab heating furnace 1 is heated to a prescribed temp. by plural burners 2 provided at both side walls of the furnace at intervals in the moving direction, then extracted to outside of the furnace. Here, the heat shelter plates 4B, 4A, 4C covering upper, lower and side surfaces of edge part in direction orthogonal to moving direction of the slab 3 are provided to a part in the furnace 1. These are made of refractory brick, heat resistant alloy and ceramic, etc. The plate 4A is horizontally attached on a support 5 constructed with brick, etc., in i.e. hearth. On the other hand, the plate 4B, 4C are attached to a beam 8 fixed to lower ends of vertical arms 7 hung down from upper part of furnace body and the arms 7 are freely raised or lowered by an elevator 9 installed at the upper part of the furnace body. |
