PURPOSE:To prevent a ribbon from being bent or twisted, by a method wherein a printing ribbon is stretched over the entire part of the moving range of a thermal head separately from a carrier, and is guided by a guide member, in a thermal printer using a transfer ribbon. CONSTITUTION:Separately from the carrier 20, the printing ribbon 53 is stretched over the entire part of the moving range of the thermal head 22 by a main body 48 of a cassette. The ribbon 53 wound around a winding shaft 54 of the main body 48 of the cassette is passed through guide rollers 61, 63, and when it comes out of a ribbon outlet port 62, it is rectilinearly stretched without being twisted or bent between the port 62 and a ribbon inlet port 72 by the ribbon guide member 67 having a channel-like cross section and fitted to an outside surface of channel-like cross section and fitted to an outside surface of a supporting wall 66 of the main body 48 of the cassette. In this course, the ribbon 53 is set to be located on a front side of the thermal head 22 by being wound around a ribbon-pressing roller 23, and contact and separation of the ribbon 53 from the thermal head 22 are effected by moving the carrier 20. |
