<p>The engine, which is of the kind described in G.B. 1237704, includes a plurality of combustion chambers (12) and a compressor supplying air to the combustion chambers. The compressor includes a drum (A) provided with a plurality of blades or fins. The drum (A) is fixed to a shaft (B) which is rotatable within a cavity defined by a wall (C). The compressor rotor includes a first set of axial-flow blades (1) and a second set of axial-flow blades (3). The compressor also includes a set of centrifugal blades (10) and stationary sets of blades (2) and (5). Rotatably mounted on the shaft (B) are two sets of contra-rotating blades (4) and (6).
