MANUFACTURE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC SILVER HALIDE EMULSION

PURPOSE:To carry out rapid coagulation and precipitation without breaking a reaction product by adding a coagulant to a silver halide emulsion in a vessel while stirring the emulsion by uniform force all over the inside of the vessel, and carrying out rapid stirring when the coagulant is added and slow stirring during the coagulation of particles. CONSTITUTION:A coagulant is added to an emulsion in a mixing vessel 10 while stirring lthe emulsion with a stirrer capable of applying uniform force to the emulsion all over the inside of the vessel. For example, a stirrer 11d having blades projected radially from a shaft 12 in steps is used. The stirrer is operated so as to carry out rapid stirring when the coagulant is added and slow stirring during the coagulation of emulsion particles. The emulsion is stirred by uniform force all over the inside of the vessel, and the stirring is made rapid during the reaction and slow during the coagulation, so emulsion particles can be rapidly coagulated and precipitated without breaking a reaction product.
