PURPOSE:To form a picture of high quality at low cost by generating plural color signals corresponding to picture elements and storing them in a memory, one by one, for one line, and recording one picture element in the form of a pattern consisting of plural scanning lines. CONSTITUTION:One point in an original 103 is irradiated by white light sources 105 and 106 to be read, and separated into signals 110-112 of B, G, and R through color separation filters. Then, the reflected energy signals from the original are A/D-converted into original density signals. The difference between an original picture density value and the amount of black plate is calculated and a lightness component is liminated to calculate a color component, which is inputted to a masking circuit 130. The masking circuit 130 converts a separated color signal into a complementary color signal for printing and also correct spectral characteristics of toner. The output of the masking circuit 130 is inputted to dither circuits 133-136 to represent the formed picture with half-tones. Four-bit data after dither processing are inputted to pattern generators 144- 147 respectively. Then, a basic density pattern corresponding to the four-bit input data is selected and outputted. |
