PURPOSE:To form a weld zone having good quality with high working efficiency in the stage of forming a fillet part between a large-sized circular shaft and a flange made of a thick steel plate and welding the two members by interposing an intermediate material formed with fillet in the welding groove part and welding the materials with a heat source of high density energy. CONSTITUTION:A circular shaft 1 made of a thick steel plate is welded to a flange 2 made of a rolled steel plate to be provided at the shaft end part thereof. The rolling direction 4 of the flange 2 is perpendicular to the axial centerline 5 of the shaft 1, and an intermediate material 3 which is an arm-shaped ring having a thickness (t) and is formed externally with a fillet 3a rounded to a recessed shape is interposed between the flange 2 and the shaft 1. A high- density energy beam such as electron beams 9, 10 or the like is irradiated along the double U groove lines 7, 8 in the weld zone formed in the above-mentioned way, whereby the flange and the shaft are welded. The welding is performed with high working efficiency without generating the stepwise cracking liable to be formed in the weld heat-affected zone of the thick-rolled steel plate. |
