PURPOSE:To detect in a short time a defect such as missing of a character and dirt with high accuracy, by performing prescribed arithmetic from horizontal and vertical projected pattern of a character string binary-coded and converted into picture elements. CONSTITUTION:A data DATA quantized (video or picture elements) by using a prescribed signal is stored sequentially in a picture memory 1. An address generator 2 generates an address to store the said quantized data in a prescribed order and reads out a desired picture data from the picture memory by designating an optional address. A projecting pattern detecting section 3 extracts the number of picture element representing the character train of data read out at each horizontal or vertical scanning of the picture memory 1, i.e., the projected value, and a segment number detecting section 4 extracts the number of connections of picture elements representing the character string similarly. |
