A system for the metered impregnation of emulsion cloths employs a support (2, 3) which serves to hold the cloth (1) to be impregnated. The cloth is extended between displaceable emulsion supply elements (4, 5). These elements when moved by carriage (6) along column (7) cause a uniform layer of emulsion with a predetermined thickness to be applied to the cloth. One element (5) is movable towards the cloth to engage one surface whilst the other element (4) is movable in the opposite direction towards the opposite side of the cloth. Micrometer (10) maintains the element (4) spaced from the opposite side of the cloth to obtain a required thickness of emulsion.
