A hot dip, coating bath, of compsn. 24-80% Al, up to 5% Si and balance Zn, additionally contains (a) 0.005-0.5% total of one or more of 0.05-0.2% Be, 0.01-0.5% Mg, 0.005-0.1% Ca, 0.005-0.1% Ba and 0.005-0.1% Sr and/or (b) 0.001-0.5% each of one or more of La, Ce, Pr and Nd. - The bath is used esp. for hot dip galvanising of steel strip. The bath gives improved wetting of the steel strip and produced a more uniform coating thickness
