The hydraulic system compensates for sudden wind power changes, without any loss of output speed. The rotor assembly is mounted on the shaft driven directly by the windmill rotor, while the stator assembly is mounted in a rotatable housing in the mill support frame, by two ring bearings. An oil pump/motor (8) is coupled by a clutch to the housing. When the wind speed is high, it acts as a pump, and oil is fed from a supply tank (16) to an accumulator tank (17). When the wind speed is low the returning oil drives the stator assembly around the rotor to maintain generator rotation speed. An over-pressure relief valve (18) prevents too great a supply to the accumulator tank. |
