The crossfeeder is for a constant supply rate and variable output rate of serially provided ammunition. It has a support and weapon with a feed and an intermediate holder for accumulation of a variable number of items between the input and discharge. The intermediate holder includes at least one pivotable accumulating sprocket mounted to pivot about the axis of at least one of the input and discharge sprockets in accordance with differences between the supply rate and the output rate. A guide guides the rounds from the input to the output via the intermediate sprocket. A control is responsive to the position of the accumulating sprocket relative to the pivot axis to control the feed.
