<p>5-Amino 6-methoxy 3,4'-bipyridine is made by (1) hydrolysis of 2-methoxy 5-(4-pyridinyl) nicotinonitrile with oxygenated water in alkaline methanol medium, (2) treatment of the 2-methoxy 5-(4-pyridinyl) nicotinamide formed with sodium hypobromite in aqueous methanol medium at around 0 deg.C and (3) addition of hydrochloric acid to give 7-8, and separation of the prod. by filtration. - It has pharmacological uses as a cardio-tonic agent.</p> |
