The invention concerns a retractable step board device intended to permit or to facilitate access to a platform. The step ladder comprises sliding members 10, 11 cooperating with guide means 13 which are rigidly fixed to the said platform 2, along an inclined path and ascending from a lower rear end 23 which is distant from the access board of the platform to an upper end 25 which is close to the said board, the sliding means 10, 11 being able to be moved between the said rear end 23, corresponding to the hidden position of the step board and the said upper end 25 corresponding to the active position of the step board.
