PURPOSE:To enable the detection of a precise and actual knocking condition by detecting a mean knocking condition through the evaluation of a distribution form obtainable from the multi-cycle sampling of a knocking force value corresponding to a maximum peak value. CONSTITUTION:Within a control circuit 10 is provided a knocking force detecting means for taking out a knocking force value such as a rectification integral corresponding to the maximum peak value of signals from a knock sensor 4 for detecting the knocking of an engine 1. And the form of distribution available from the multi-combustion sampling of said knocking force value is evaluated to judge whether the distribution conforms to a predetermined form. Depending upon the result of the evaluation, a means knocking condition ranging over a plurality of cycles is detected and a knocking control factor is controlled correspondingly. According to the aforementioned constitution, a knocking condition can be detected independent of the dispersion, the aging and the like of the knock sensor 4 and the engine 1, and the engine 1 can be kept at a condition wherein a target knocking occurs among a plurality of cycles. |
