A printing device contained in an arrangement is programmed and, bearing on a document, is displaced over the latter, in order to print on postmarks. The feed speed is monitored, in order to coordinate the printing on with the relative movement. The arrangement (10) contains a printing device, a microprocessor which controls the printing device, a means for monitoring the relative movement and a timing means for the microprocessor in order to coordinate the printing on with the relative movement. The arrangement is disposed in a housing (24) and is provided with rollers (30, 32) in order to move the arrangement over the document (14) with one hand and to frank postal consignments in a simple way. <IMAGE>
