PURPOSE:To obtain a local surface wave sound speed on the surface region of a metal body, by using a wedge, whose incident angle can be varied, generating the surface wave on the metal body, and obtaining the incident angle, at which the generating intensity of the surface wave becomes the maximum value. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of a metal plate 10, a wedge 22, whose incident angle can be varied is mounted. The wedge 22 comprises a semicircular acrylic resin 22a and an acrylic resin 22b, which can be slidden on the outer surface of the resin 22a, and on the surface of which a vibrating plate 20 is bonded. The incident angle theta of the wedge 22 is varied by a pair of air cylinders 26a and 26b. A surface wave propagated on the metal plate 10 is detected by a detecting head 32. The generating intensity of the surface wave from the detecting head 32 is inputted to an operating device 36. The incident angle theta is obtained in correspondence with the output values of pressure gages 31a and 31b. The incident angle, at which the generating intensity of the surface wave becomes the maximum, is obtained. Based on the incident angle, a sound speed CR of the surface wave is computed and displayed on a display device 38. |
