摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce the number of bearings and eliminate shaft couplings by a method wherein a gear box is directly connected to the casing of a steam turbine, both a rotor shaft and a pinion shaft of a reduction gear mechanism are integrally formed as a rotor shaft. CONSTITUTION:A steam turbine transmits a power to a generator and the like through a reduction gear mechanism stored in a gear box 42 (including a pinion 46 and a large gear 49 engaging with the pinion). In this case, both a rotor shaft of turbine and a pinion shaft of a reduction gear mechanism are constructed as an integrated rotor shaft 44. The rotor shaft 44 is supported by the bearings 45, 45' held in the forward bracket 47 and the rearward bracket 48 integrally formed with the gear box 42, and by the wall 51 integrally formed with the turbine casing. The pinion 46 of the reduction gear mechanism and the large gear 49 are of a bevel gear, respectively, in order to eliminate the thrust force applied from a row of blades of the rotor shaft 44 by means of the thrust force generated by the rotation due to mutual engagement between those gears.
