In order to increase sewing reliability and prevent the fabric from warping during the sewing of formed pleats in the material (38) when the slide hooks are inserted, the sewing is carried out by means of an apparatus mounted on a zigzag-stitch sewing machine and the material and the slide hooks introduced into the pleats are pressed down by means of a rolling foot. The apparatus serving for making pleats and mounted on a zigzag-stitch sewing machine comprises positioning means (1') and a base plate (1), there being guided in the latter a bearing plate (3), on which a transversely movable longitudinal sliding plate (8), provided with a sewing basket (34), a pleating finger (44) and stop members (48), is arranged in a mobile manner. <IMAGE>
