PURPOSE:To burnish a fixed workpiece by inserting an axially movable rotary tapered rod between several tapered rollers supported by a guide, in a burnishing device for a bored hole surface. CONSTITUTION:With a rod 3 having a tapered end retracted through a piston 8 by feeding a pressure oil through a retracting oil-pressure port 14, several tapered rollers 2 in a group are inserted into the hole of a workpiece 1, in a condition of reduced diameter. Then, with a spindle 18 rotated and with a pressure oil fed through an advancing oil-pressure port 13 and, as the rod 3 is rotated while being advanced, the tapered-roller 2 group is rotated while expanding its diameter, with the outer surface pressed against the machining surface, thereby improving the roughness of the surface. When the burnishing operation is completed, the rod 3 is retracted, allowing the tapered-roller 2 group to be retracted with its diameter reduced. This ability to burnish a workpiece in a fixed condition enables the device to be incorporated in a transfer machine while providing a uniform surface roughness. |
