In an address-controlled data traffic between a processor (P) and at least one process element (PE), each addressing accepted for the process element (PE) is counted. The result of the count is signalled to the processor (P) so that the latter can compare the number of addressings initiated by it with the number of accepted addressings and thus the correct operation of the data processing device can be monitored. <IMAGE>
