PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of the side edges at the tail end of a hot strip and that of a coiler, by changing the control of a mandrel into speed control and that of pinch rolls into tension control during the period ranging just before the running out of the tail end of hot strip from a finish stand till the time of completion of coiling. CONSTITUTION:Until the tail end of a strip 2 runs out from a final finish stand 1 after the strip 2 is coiled around a mandrel 7, or till the time just before the running out of the tail end from the stand 1, the mandrel 7 is controlled in terms of tension, and pinch rolls 5, 6 are controlled in terms of speed. And at the time when the tail end 7 of the strip 2 runs out from the stand 1, or just before it, the control of the rolls 5, 6 is changed over from the speed control into the tension control, and the control of the mandrel 7 is changed over from the tension control into the speed control just after the running out of the tail end from the stand 1. |
