Expansion joint and sealing structure

The invention provides an expansion joint and sealing structure for gaps of variable width between road, road embankment, bridge or similar sections which are subjected to expansion and contraction. The said expansion joint and sealing structure is in the form of an elongated elastomeric part which has mutually spaced transverse channels of generally rectangular cross-section, and rounded corners into which rods of corresponding cross-section, but of shorter length, are inserted. Both the channels and the rods have locking devices which interact with one another and which centre the rods in each channel equidistantly from its ends, so that they are held above the gap between the roadway, road embankment, bridge or similar section.
