For the selective, ordered safekeeping of articles, in particular of items of clothing (9), over a desired period of time, in the compartment (4, 19, 20) of a running store (1) which can be actuated as required and to which access is had, by way of a receiving and dispensing device (dragging device 8), through an inlet/outlet station (5), there are provided means for driving and for controlling the device in the form of a number of coded control cards (7) for a computer (12), the control commands of which are used to actuate the receiving or discharging device (8) as well as a sliding door (11) which closes an access opening (7) to the store (1) and is guided in profiled rails (51) by means of roller elements (42, 43). The driving element used for the sliding door (11) is a gear motor (32) which, via a crank (34) and a connecting rod (35), moves a carriage (37), which is fixedly connected to the door (11), in a frictionally-engaging manner out of one end position and in a resiliently compliant manner out of the other end position. The receiving or discharging device (8) used at the inlet/outlet station (5) of the store (1) is a drag hook (15) carried by a drag chain which can be driven by means of a gear motor (61). <IMAGE>
