A laminated panel element (1) is prefabricated from a sheet-metal cladding cassette (2) and a mineral-fibre board (3) with a comparatively low specific gravity of, for example, 40 kg/m<3> and is made available in this form. The cladding cassette (2) has in relation to the cross-sectional dimensions of the mineral-fibre board (3), in the direction of both the width (b) and the lateral height (h) of the panel element (1), such an undersize that the mineral-fibre board (3) is put under pressure both in the direction of the width (b) and in the direction of the thickness (lateral height h). The relatively large surfaces bearing against one another thereby result surprisingly in a stiffening effect for the panel element (1) as a whole, which makes it possible to use the panel element (1) virtually in the same way as a rigid solid panel during transport and assembly. In a building-element kit for a wall cladding, therefore, it is necessary to provide only fastening sections with shoulders which hold the panel elements (1) in the region of their open end faces (3a), whilst the panel elements (1) between the fastening sections are self-supporting. This affords a very considerable saving in terms of the outlay for assembly. <IMAGE>
