A slaughtered chicken, which has already been headwise introduced in a plastic bag member, is placed in a holder (2) with the bag mouth oriented upwardly, and two upper swivel jaws (6) are moved together to form a narrow cylinder (12) about the upper end of the chicken. An overlying tubular piston (22,121) is forced down into the narrow cylinder for pressing the leg ends of the chicken downwardly, and the piston has a bottom closure (30,146) which is active as a piston end, but openable to enable the free bag mouth portion to be sucked into the tubular piston when vacuum is applied to the upper end thereof. When thereafter the bottom closure is closed the sucked up bag mouth portion will be clamped to the piston, and the piston is now rotated for twisting the bag mouth portion. Thereafter the bag holder (2) is moved past a tape applicator device for fixing of the twisted bag mouth portion, and the bag portion outside the tape is cut off and sucked away through the piston. |
