PURPOSE:To retreat surely lower rolls with a simple construction by supporting the front and rear of a scale sluice provided with two lower rolls with two hydraulic cylinders, etc., and lowering and retreating the one lower roll as a cutter approaches. CONSTITUTION:Lower rolls 22, 23 are mounted by means of bearings 24 to a U-shaped scale sluice 21 which is open in the upper, front and rear parts and is shallow in the rear part and deep in the front part with respect to the advance direction of a billet 20. Hydraulic cylinders 25, 27 are provided below the sluice. When a billet 29 moves in an arrow direction and a synchronized cutter approaches the roll 22, the cylinder 25 is operated to retreat an operating rod 26. Then the scale sluice 21 is displaced to an alternate long and short dash line position, and the roll 22 descends down to the position of 22a. When the cutter approaches the roll 23, the roll 23 is retreated by the cylinder 27. The scale falling into the bottom of the sluice 21 flows from an outlet 29 and is thus removed. |
