The invention relates to a manually operated and/or electromagnetically operated alternating valve for pneumatic controls in motor vehicles. An electromagnet and an alternating valve which is joined in terms of construction to the electromagnet and a switch which can be operated by the electromagnet are arranged in a hermetically sealable housing chamber into which the pneumatic and electrical connections lead in a sealing manner. The handle for manual actuation of the alternating valve is constructed as a rocker switch which is connected on the one hand to the armature via tappets and on the other hand to the switch. The tappets are also inserted into the housing chamber in a sealing fashion. The switch is connected in series inside the circuit for the excitation of the electromagnet and is only closed in the working position of the armature. As a result, the electromagnet is constructed in the manner of a self-locking relay. It can merely hold the armature in the manually produced working position, as a result of which the coil can be designed to be very small and lightweight. By arranging the alternating valve on the same axis on either side of the flap-shaped armature, a compact design of the combined electropneumatic alternating valve is achieved.
