The process is characterised in that a) lower linear alcohols of the general formula CnH2n+1OH are reacted with HBr or linear 1-carboxylic acids of the general formula CnH2n+1COOH are reacted with Br2 in the presence of mercury(II) oxide to give linear 1-bromoalkanes of the general formula CnH2n+1Br, b) the resulting linear 1-bromoalkanes are reacted with triphenylphosphine to give the corresponding phosphonium salts of the formula (C6H5)3P+CnH2n+1Br, c) the resulting phosphonium salts are converted into the ylides (C6H5)3P=CnH2n in the presence of a strong base, d) the ylides obtained are reacted with -formyl esters of the formula OHC-(CH2)m-COOR to give linear enecarboxylic esters of the formula H3C-(CH2)n-2-CH=CH-(CH2)m-COOR and e) the compounds obtained are hydrogenated catalytically under increased pressure and at increased temperature to give the desired wax alcohols. )
|
