PURPOSE:To prepare a high quality LaB6 single crystal, by using an Al-La intermetallic compound and an Al-B intermetallic compound as the starting raw materials for La component and B componet, respectively, thereby preventing the contamination of the raw materials with oxygen during the preparation of the raw materials. CONSTITUTION:An LaB6 single crystal is grown from Al flux by the slow cooling process. In the above process, an intermetallic compound composed of La and Al La3Al2, LaAl2) is used as the La component raw material in place of elemental La, and an intermetallic compound of B and Al (AlB2 or AlB12) is used in place of elemental B. The intermixing of La and B is facilitated, the oxygen-contamination of the raw materials during preparation can be prevented, and a high-quality LaB6 single crystal is obtained by this process. |
