A compact self-cleaning cabinet dust collector. The collector housing (20) is a single-piece molded unit having recessed areas (25, 26, 27) and a molded air inlet (42). Dust laden air entering the collector is diffused and divided into two flows in an air flow passageway (45) surrounding the suspended flexible pleated filter element (70). Precleaning means (50) in the inner wall (48) of the passageway (45) removes relatively large particulate matter upstream from the filter element (70). A collector ramp (40) at the bottom of the passageway (45) directs the removed matter forwardly and downwardly to a removable hopper (55) located in one of the recessed areas (25, 26, 27). A fan (78) is supported by a spider inlet (82) directly above the open end of the filter element (70) and draws the air through the collector. The fan motor (91) is isolated from the housing (20) interior in one of the recessed areas (25, 26, 27). The filter element (70) is flex-cleaned by a rotatable mechanism adjacent the bottom closed end of the filter element (70). The mechanism includes a motor (108) located in another recessed area (25, 26, 27), a rotatable arm (110) having wiper blades (113, 114) at each end (111, 112) and ramp lugs (115) on the bottom end of the filter element (70). The rotating arm (110) engages the ramp lugs (115) to cause a lifting and twisting of the element (70) and an abrupt release of the element (70) which releases accumulated dust from the element (70). The released dust is swept into the hopper (55) by the wiper blades (113, 114). A double-walled cover (30) is secured to the top end of the housing (20) over the spider inlet (82) and fan (78). A top wall (102) of the cover (30) contains louvered openings (103) for release of filtered air from the collector. A spaced apart, inner wall (104) attenuates the noise level of the exiting air.
|
