1285590 Extrusion presses GULF-WESTERN INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS CO 30 Dec 1969 [13 Jan 1969] 63329/69 Heading B3P [Also in Divisions B5 and F2] A press, especially a long stroke extrusion press comprises a first link 98 pivotally connected at one end to a reciprocable slide assembly 104, a connecting link 84 having opposite ends pivotally connected to a rotatable crank 80 and the other end of the first link 98, and a constraining link 88 pivoted at one end to the press frame at 92, and at the other end to the connecting link 84 at a point spaced from the connection between the first link 98 and the connecting link 84. This linkage imparts a fast advance and return motion to the slide and a slow motion through the working stroke. In Fig. 5 the linkage is shown diagrammatically with the reference numerals primed. The press shown is provided with an extrusion ram 122 and piercer 123. The crank 80 is driven by an electric motor (32), Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), through a flywheel (38), clutch (44) and gearing 54, 56, 58-68. The shafts 76 and 92 for the crank 80 and link 88 respectively are preferably in the same vertical planes and mounted in the parting planes of sections 18, 20, 22 of the press frame to facilitate assembly. |
