ANTIBIOTIC SUBSTANCE PRODUCED BY FERMENTATION OF NEW STRAIN OF STREPTOMYCES HYGROSCOPICUS

PURPOSE:A Bu-2695 antibiotic substance complex obtained by cultivating a strain of Streptomyces hygroscopicus having the identified characteristic of ATCC No. 39150 in an aqueous nutrient culture medium under aerobic conditions by the submerged culture method. CONSTITUTION:A strain of Streptomyces hygroscopicus No. J296-21 having the identified characteristic of ATCC No. 39150 is inoculated into an aqueous nutrient culture medium containing an assimilable carbon source, nitrogen source, nutrient inorganic salt and a very small amount of a heavy metal salt and cultivated aerobically at 5-10 pH and 20-43 deg.C for 4-7 days by the submerged culture method to produce a Bu-2659 complex consisting of Bu-2659A-E. The resultant complex is then separated into the components Bu-2659A, B, C, D and E if necessary by the chromatographic means.
