PURPOSE:To decrease electric power consumption and to make a small-sized low voltage battery usable by impressing a voltage higher than a threshold voltage in the longitudinal direction of the resistance layer of a liquid crystal cell and impressing the same synchronously between the resistance layers as well. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal cell I is constituted of a polarization plate 1, a substrate 2, a resistance layer 3 formed on the substrate 2, a space 4 to be packed therein with a nematic liquid crystal, a substrate 6, a conductive layer 5 formed on the substrate 6, and a polarization plate 7. The two substrates 2, 6 are opposed in parallel at 4mu-50mu space and a nematic liquid crystal is sandwiched between the same. The substrates are sealed hermetically in the connectable state to an external circuit. The basic driving is accomplished by a method of impressing a voltage between the layer 3 and the layer 5 so as to generate a potential difference between the same, and impressing the voltage regulated in such a way that the liquid crystal when applied with a potential difference distribution makes display in the potential difference region without exceeding the threshold thereof. |
