PURPOSE:To obtain a novel ubiquinone derivative NK-4, by cultivating a specific microorganism belonging to the genus Kernia or Chaetomium in a nutrient culture medium, extracting the ubiquinone derivative from the microbial cell, and separating and purifying the ubiquinone derivative. CONSTITUTION:A specific microorganism, e.g. Kernia nitida (IFO8200), belonging to the genus Kernia or Chaetomium in a potato-sucrose culture medium and aerobially cultivated. After the cultivation, the microbial cell is separated and extracted. The resultant extract is then separated and purified by the conventional extracting and purifying method for the ubiquinone to afford the aimed novel ubiquinone derivative NK-4. The resultant ubiquinone derivative NK-4 is a neutral yellow substance having a structural formula expressed by the formula and the following properties: Molecular weight: 866 (measured by the mass spectrometric method). Molecular formula: C50H94O4. Insoluble in water and soluble in acetone, chloroform, ethanol and ether. |
