<p>A discharge gate for a container of liquid metal, has an upper fixed plate, a lower fixed plate and an intermediate slidable plate between the upper and lower plates and whose position regulates the opening and closing of the discharge gate. There is an elastic device for thrusting the lower plate up against the intermediate plate and hence the intermediate plate up against the upper plate, the resilient device comprising a pair of spaced, rotatable shafts, e.g. extending along the sides of the lower plate with a crank arm fixed to the front end of each shaft, a single actuating device, e.g. a floating linear actuator, for rotating each shaft and applying substantially the same torque to each shaft, e.g. the free end of each crank arm being fixed to the actuating device, and lever arms rotationally fixed to the shafts for moving the lower plate up or down, substantial torsional flexibility being provided by the length of shaft between the lever arms and the point of connection to the actuating device.</p> |
