PURPOSE:To provide the titled recorder capable of using an ink ribbon wastelessly, wherein a color ink ribbon of a plurality of colors (except black) and a black ink ribbon are fitted at upper and lower stages in a containing box so that they can be independently moved, and the box is moved up and down. CONSTITUTION:In the ribbon-containing box 22, the color ink ribbon 1 of a plurality of colors (except black) and the black ink ribbon 56 are fitted at upper and lower stages. When recording with the ribbon fitted to a ribbon- feeding system in a lower chamber, a pinion 76 is rotated in a predetermined direction to push up a vertical movement driving shaft 60 so that the ribbon 56 is brought to the position of a heating element row 64 provided in a thermal head 12. When recording with the ribbon 1 fitted to a ribbon-feeding system in an upper chamber, the pinion 76 is rotated in the reverse direction to lower the shaft 60 so that the ribbon 1 is brought to the position of the heating element row 64.
