The invention concerns a method for flash welding, in which when welding two parts they are made to progressively approach each other and the ends of the parts are melted by means of alternating current, while at the same time an oscillating motion along the direction of approach is imparted to one of the parts, thereby accomplishing an additional relative motion of the parts being welded together to and from each other, with the result that the spark gap and the resistance of the contact bridges between the parts will vary. When the resistance across the contact bridges exceeds a predetermined value, the welding voltage is reduced to within the range of 0.7-0 of its working value. The voltage can also be reduced to within said interval during the relative motion of the parts away from each other for a time interval of at least 1/8 of the period for the part's oscillating motion and restored during the relative movement of the parts toward each other for a time interval of no more than 1/8 of the period of the oscillating motion. <IMAGE> |
