Measuring device with displacement sensor and graduations counter, characterised in that it comprises a carriage 2 moving along a rule 1 provided with graduations distributed at equal intervals corresponding to a predetermined pitch, a displacement sensor 13 mounted on the said carriage and comprising a plurality of sensitive elements 14 supplying pulse signals as they pass over the graduations 4 of the rule, and means 16, 3 of cumulative counting of the pulses thus emitted successively during the displacement of the carriage, the individual elements 14 of the sensor 13 being separated from each other, in the direction of displacement of the carriage 2, by a distance corresponding to an improper fraction of the pitch of the graduations. <IMAGE>
