PURPOSE:To increase a switching speed and to reduce power consumption required for switching by driving the movable optical element of a mechanical optical switch by a piezoelectric element. CONSTITUTION:When a voltage with shown polarity is impressed between terminals 21 and 22 of he switch 20 as shown in a figure (a), the piezoelectric element 11 is displaced to right in the shape of a broken line A to press a projection 13, and N52 alloy 15A is attracted by a permanent magnet 17. When the switch 20 is turned off, the element 11 returns to the nondisplacement position as shown by a solid line and the projection 14 of a slider 12 collides against the element 11, so that the slider is held at the position balancing with the attracting force of the magnet 17. When a voltage with the opposite polarity is applied to the switch 20 as shown in a figure (b), the element 11 is displaced to left as shown by a broken line 11B to press the projection 14 and an N52 alloy piece 15B is attracted by a permanent magnet 18. When the switch is turned off, the element 11 stops in contact with the projection 13. Therefore, the polarities of the voltage to the element 11 are changed to switch optical paths. |
