PURPOSE:To reduce the wavelength dependency of an angle of rotary polarization by arranging two wavelength plates which have a phase difference pi from specific wavelength light so that their main axes are at an angle theta, and guiding linearly polarized incident light at theta/2 to the main shaft of an incidence-side wavelength plate oppositely to the direction wherein theta is measured. CONSTITUTION:Titled rotary polarizer 1 has birefringency and consists of two wavelength plates 2 and 3 which have the phase difference pi to wavelength lambda so that their main axes are at an angle theta, and the linear polarized light slanting at theta/2 to the main shaft of the incidence-side wavelength plate 2 oppositely to the direction where said theta is measured is incident to the wavelength plate 2. When the linear polarized light with wavelength lambda is incident at theta/2 to the main shaft of the wavelength plate 2, linear polarized light projected from the wavelength plate 2 is rotated by theta. Its projected linear polarized light is incident to the wavelength plate 3, but further rotated by theta through the wavelength plate 3 when projected. When the wavelength of the linear polarized incident light varies to lambda+ or -DELTAlambda, the wavelength dependency is eliminated. |
