Leaktight expansion joint structure

The invention relates to a leaktight expansion joint structure intended to be applied over the space of variable width formed between highway sections, bridge sections or the like which are subject to thermal expansion and contraction movements. The joint structure comprises an elongated elastomer element 10 which has transverse, spaced channels 18 inside which are inserted flat, elongated metal load bars 20 centred in these channels 18 by projections 19 of the latter and recesses 21 of the bars 20. The latter are thus held in position in the elastomer element 10. Field of application: leaktight expansion joints for bridges and highway sections subject to movements due to temperature variations. <IMAGE>
