PURPOSE:To simplify a designating operation of a receiving side and to prevent the generation of a mistake in the designation when designating the plural receiving sides by providing an automatic mode for designating the receiving side according to the character information recorded in a transmission original. CONSTITUTION:The mode switch of the keyboard of a terminal equipment 12 is operated to set to the automatic mode. The original in which the designated code of the receiving side of a transmission destination is recorded at a prescribed position of the transmission original 20 is used. A photoelectric conversion circuit 10 outputs a picture signal obtained by scanning this transmission original 20 to a data converting circuit 13 and a character recognition circuit 11. The character recognition circuit 11 operates when the automatic mode is set and performs a character recognition processing to the picture signal corresponding to the designated code of the receiving side recorded in the transmission original 20. Namely. according to the predetermined specific symbol, the designated character information is recognized as the designated code of the receiving side and the recognition result is outputted to a transmission control circuit 14 and transmitted to the receiving side.
