<FORM:1113382/C2/1> Novel compounds of Formula I, in which R is a C1- 4 alkylthio, amino, C1- 4 alkylamino, di-(C1- 4 alkyl) amino or C1- 4 alkanoylamino group and R1 is a hydrogen atom or a C1- 4 alkyl group are prepared by condensing 5-nitrofurfural, or its diacetate, with a compound of the Formula II, preferably in the presence of a dehydrating agent. When an anhydride of a carboxylic acid of 1-4 carbon atoms is used as the dehydrating agent, compounds in which R is a C1- 4 alkanoyl-amino group are obtained from starting materials in which R is NH2. The compounds in which R is an alkanoylamino group are also obtained by acylating the corresponding amino compounds. The compounds in which R is an amino group may be obtained by hydrolysis of the corresponding acylamino compounds. |
