The invention shows the state of vehicle tyres, in particular the tyre pressure and the tread depth. For this purpose, speed-of-revolutions sensors (22 to 25) are arranged on the relevant wheels (10 to 13) and are connected a reference speed former (29) and comparators (32 to 35) for comparing the sensor signals with the reference speed. The reference speed former (29) is driven here by means of a logic element for detecting a predetermined vehicle state, namely forwards and/or non-braked straightline travel of the vehicle. The reference speed identified in the detected driving state is fed to a memory (31, 52) and compared with the sensor signals as a function of the respective travel speed (vF). As a result, both long-term changes of the tyre state (tyre wear) and short-term changes (pressure drop) can be detected (Fig. 2). <IMAGE>
