Spikes for sports shoes which in each case are fastened to the front outsole and/or to a spike holding plate by means of a holding element, have a cross-sectional shape tapering away from the shoe sole and consist of hard material such as steel, with the purpose of increasing the running effectiveness of the sports shoe by means of the design of the spikes. The side walls of the spikes are designed converging forwards in the longitudinal direction of the shoe, but on the other hand the rear wall of the spike is designed laterally widened in the horizontal direction in the respective vertical height of the spike and also curved backwards.
