The present invention relates to the constructional design of mass transfer apparatus for isolating harmful impurities from gas mixtures. The absorber comprises an upright housing (1), within which at least two horizontal sieve trays (2) and (3) are accommodated on each of which floating packing (4) is arranged. An inlet branch (5) is located in the lower part of the housing (1), and an outlet branch (6) for the gas mixture is located in the upper part. The absorber also comprises inlet branches (8) and (15) for the liquid, which are connected to nozzles (7) and (25) respectively, spray water precipitators (10) and (27) located above the sieve trays (2) and (3) respectively, and in each case a collection chamber (16) and (19) for liquid underneath the sieve tray (2) and (3) respectively, which are each provided with an outlet branch (17) and (20) for the liquid. According to the invention, a horizontal partition (11), on which a frame (12) is arranged, is mounted between two adjacent sieve trays (2) and (3). The end faces of the frame (12) are covered above by a cover (13) and below by the partition (11) and form a closed chamber (14) which is provided with a branch (15) for the liquid and connected to the nozzles (25) for spraying the packing (4) with liquid.
