Method of coating carbon objects

Carbon objects are coated with a thin layer of a carbide of at least one metal of the homologous series IVB, VB and VIB of the Periodic Table of chemical elements.
<??>A wettable, electrically conducting layer is produced on the carbon objects by a meniscus method. In this operation, a molten alloy composed of one of the main components lead, zinc, lead/zinc or zinc/aluminium and at least one metal which is added by alloying in an amount of 0.1-10% by weight and is selected from the homologous series IVB, VB and VIB of the Periodic Table of chemical elements is heated to a temperature of between 700 and 1100 DEG C and kept at this temperature for a time of between 0.1 and 30 minutes.
