1,215,607. Monogrammic displays. WAGNER ELECTRIC CORP. 5 March, 1968 [13 March, 1967], No. 10562/68. Heading G5C. A monogrammic display, suitable for e.g. the rigourous conditions found in military aricraft, comprises an array of light-transmitting rods 12 embedded in an opaque epoxy resin 13, the light output obtained by selectively illuminating the ends 11 of the rods being modified by a coloured filter 14. As claimed, the materials used are: Rods 12, a polycarbonate resin having the formula shown where either (i) X is carbon, R 1 and R 2 (which need not be identical) are hydrogen atoms, alkyl or aryl groups, or together form a cycloalkyl group, or (ii) X is oxygen and R 1 and R 2 are absent, or (iii) X is sulphur, R 1 and R 2 are oxygen; and where n = 75 to 350. Resin 13, a polymer of epichlorohydrin and bisphenol-A having an epoxide equivalent = 175 to 200 and a M.W. = 450 to 750. Filter 14, an epoxy resin having the same numerical values as resin 13. As described, the rod surfaces 10A are silvered or otherwise rendered reflective. A preferred rod material is that sold under the trade name "Lexan", comprising 2,2 - bis(hydroxyphenyl)- propane. |
